On Thursday afternoon, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker named Kallu, also known as Asif, was shot in Kamarhati under the North 24 Parganas district. The assailants, reportedly four miscreants on two bikes, fired indiscriminately at Kallu in the Sastitala area. Following the attack, Kallu was swiftly transported to a private hospital and, due to the severity of his injuries, subsequently shifted to Sagar Dutta Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
The injured TMC worker sustained gunshot wounds to his hand and leg during the incident, which witnessed about 13 rounds of bullets being fired. Local sources identify Kallu as an active Trinamool worker in the area, prompting a police investigation into whether the attack was politically motivated.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported the arrival of four miscreants on two motorcycles, who fired multiple rounds at Kallu before swiftly disappearing from the Sastitala area of Kamarhati. Police from the Belgharia police station immediately responded to the incident, deploying a significant number of forces to the area.
