South Bengal gets new rail connectivity: Purulia-Bankura-Howrah MEMU service inaugurated today
A massive fire broke out during the repair of a cargo ship located on the banks of the Muri Ganga River at lot number eight of Kakdwip. The blaze ignited suddenly in the ship's engine, prompting an immediate response from the fire department.
According to the Harwood Point Coastal Police Station, present at the scene, preliminary investigations suggest that the fire originated from a spark during the repair work. The ship, laden with a significant number of gas cylinders for repairs and fuel on board, saw the flames rapidly spreading from the engine, causing panic in the vicinity.
The Sundarban police district office received the distress call and dispatched a fire brigade to the site. The dedicated efforts of the firefighters succeeded in bringing the fire under control by noon 12. The estimated loss from the incident is at around Rs 3 crore.
