In a significant development following the attack on the Enforcement Directorate (ED) team in Sandeshkhali, the Nazat police station has apprehended two individuals early Friday morning. The arrested suspects, identified as Mehboob Molla and Sukmal Sardar, were taken into custody seven days after the assault. Their identification was facilitated through the examination of video footage capturing the attack on the ED team.
The arrests were executed in the early morning hours, marking a crucial breakthrough in the ongoing investigation. However, the alleged mastermind behind the attack, TMC leader Shah Jahan Sheikh, remains elusive, prompting an intensified search by the police. Shah Jahan Sheikh, believed to be the orchestrator of the assault, is yet to be located.
Sources reveal that the arrested individuals were hiding and they belong to the Sarberia area, and their involvement in the ED attack was confirmed through video evidence. A lookout notice has also been issued by the ED for Shah Jahan Sheikh, adding to the efforts to bring all perpetrators to justice.
The incident unfolded last Friday when the ED team arrived in Sandeshkhali to conduct a search at the residence of Trinamool leader Shahjahan Sheikh, linked to a 'corruption' case involving ration distribution. The ED officials faced vehement opposition, leading to a violent encounter where they were assaulted by an enraged mob. Three officers sustained injuries and had to be hospitalized as a result of the attack.
