A 30-meter-long Arab fishing trawler named 'Intrusion' has sparked security concerns after it entered Mumbai Harbour undetected, echoing similarities to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. The vessel had been at sea for 10 days, carrying three Indian crew members who were escaping from their employer in Kuwait. They used GPS to navigate their way to Mumbai, raising questions about lapses in monitoring the seas for unidentified vessels.
Mumbai Police detained the three Tamil fishermen found aboard the Kuwaiti fishing trawler, Abdullah Sharif, charging them under the Passport Act. They were produced in a metropolitan magistrate court and remanded in police custody till Saturday. The incident has highlighted vulnerabilities in maritime security, as the fishing vessel managed to traverse territorial waters of Iran, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia before reaching Mumbai, despite being briefly detained by the Qatar Marine Police.
