Despite the imposition of Section 144 in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas, police halted the convoy of Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari, who intended to meet officials at the local police station. The incident occurred on Basanti Highway, approximately 60 kilometers from Sandeshkhali, where Adhikari's car was intercepted. Adhikari accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of being fearful, claiming that they were stopped well before reaching Sandeshkhali, where Section 144 wasn't in effect.
Following their departure from the Assembly on Monday, Adhikari and other BJP MLAs embarked on a bus journey towards Sandeshkhali around 12:30 pm, vowing not to violate Section 144. Adhikari clarified that only four women MLAs from the BJP sought permission to visit the victims in Sandeshkhali. However, their progress was hindered by police intervention on their way to the destination.
