Government is taking appropriate steps: CM Mamata Banerjee on Sandeshkhali incident

In response to the Sandeshkhali incident, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that the state government is taking appropriate measures, including the deployment of the State Women's Commission. The police have arrested the accused, Shahjahan Shaikh, a TMC leader facing allegations of sexual harassment.

Governor CV Anand Bose, cutting short his visit to Kerala, arrived in Sandeshkhali to address the situation. CM Mamata Banerjee commented on the Governor's visit, stating that he is free to go wherever he wants, and she has also informed the State Women's Commission about the matter.

A team from the West Bengal Women's Commission visited the distressed areas in Sandeshkhali, interacting with women who accused Shahjahan Shaikh and his supporters of sexual harassment. Shahjahan Shaikh remains absconding, and protests have erupted in Sandeshkhali over the past few days regarding these allegations.

Governor CV Anand Bose is currently engaging with the victim's family after canceling his scheduled visit to Kerala. Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women has sent a letter to the West Bengal government, seeking a report within 48 hours concerning the Sandeshkhali allegations.
