Union Minister Anurag Thakur has expressed condemnation over the recent arrest of a journalist by the West Bengal Police in Sandeshkhali. Thakur remarked on the incident, stating, "Women do not feel safe in West Bengal and on top of that now media persons are also feeling unsafe...the way the journalist was arrested and detained in Sandeshkhali, it deserves condemnation." Thakur emphasized the importance of press freedom and called upon the Mamata Banerjee-led government to ensure the safety and security of journalists in the state, highlighting the incident as an affront to democracy.

The arrest of the journalist in Sandeshkhali has sparked concerns about press freedom and safety in West Bengal, with Thakur's remarks amplifying calls for accountability.
