Calcutta HC slams Sheikh Shahjahan, says 'No Sympathy'

The Calcutta High Court delivered a scathing rebuke to Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sheikh Shahjahan on Thursday, following his arrest in connection with last month's attack on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas district. The High Court made its stance clear, asserting that the arrested TMC leader did not "deserve any sympathy" for his actions.

The HC announced that it would be hearing Sheikh Shahjahan's four pending bail pleas on March 4, related to the attack on ED officials. Additionally, the court highlighted that a staggering 42 cases have been registered against the TMC leader, underscoring the gravity of the situation.

"We don't have any sympathy for that person," stated Chief Justice TS Shivagnanam.

Earlier today, Sheikh Shahjahan was arrested from a residence in the Minakhan area of North 24 Parganas district, approximately 30 kilometres from the site of the Sandeshkhali incident. The arrest comes after 55 days of evading authorities. Subsequently, Sheikh Shahjahan was produced before a court in Basirhat, where the decision was made to remand him to 10-day police custody.
