Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren has introduced the 'Vidhwa Punarvivah Protsahan Yojana' (Widow Remarriage Incentive Scheme), a first-of-its-kind initiative in India. The Champai government will offer a financial incentive of Rs. 2 lakh to those opting to remarry.
Under this innovative scheme, specific eligibility criteria have been established to ensure that the assistance reaches the intended recipients. To qualify, beneficiaries must be of marriageable age and should not be employed as government workers, pensioners, or income tax payers. Additionally, eligible widows are required to apply within one year from the date of their remarriage, providing the death certificate of their late husband, thereby ensuring a transparent and efficient process.
