Seven including child killed in Hooghly road accident, Dumper driver arrested

Tragedy struck early this morning in Gurap, Hooghly, as a road accident claimed the lives of seven individuals, including a child. The incident occurred at the Kangsaripur turn, where a speeding dumper collided with a Toto carrying passengers towards Gurap. Among the deceased were a family comprising parents and their children, along with a college student. The dumper driver has been apprehended by the police, while the Toto driver succumbed to injuries at Burdwan Medical College.

The fatal collision occurred at the Kangsaripur intersection on Chunchura Dasghara Road No. 23, with the Toto en route from Bhasta to Gurap. Locals and Gurap police swiftly responded to the scene, rescuing six individuals trapped under the dumper. Despite immediate medical attention, five passengers were declared dead on arrival at Burdwan Medical College Hospital, with two others succumbing to injuries later. Hooghly Rural Superintendent of Police Kamanshish Sen confirmed the arrest of the dumper driver, highlighting the tragic loss of lives, including a young child, in the devastating accident.

The victims, including Vidyut Bera, his wife Preeti Bera, Ramprasad Das, Nupur Das, and college student Srija Bhattacharya, were residents of the region, whose lives were abruptly cut short due to the reckless collision.Local resident Mohammad Hanif said, "Seven people including the driver were traveling in the Toto. These include a girl, her parents and a college student. Someone was going to the doctor, someone was going to work. Toto was crushed by a careless dumper. Passengers, driver - all died. Couldn't save anyone."
