Supreme Court has reiterated its strict stance on electoral bonds, once again rebuking the State Bank of India (SBI) for allegedly withholding vital information during a hearing.
SC has said that SBI should disclose all possible information on electoral bonds, including the bond number along with filing an affidavit stating that it has not suppressed any information by March 21.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, argued that the main aim of formulating the electoral bonds scheme was to curb black money in politics. While implying that this judgment is being played negatively outside the court.
He claimed witch-hunting has started over the details, highlighting social media posts, "intended to cause embarrassment", that have started to surface. Responding to this the CJI stated "as judges, we are only on the rule of law and work as per the Constitution. As judges, we are also discussed in social media but our shoulders are broad enough to take this. We are only enforcing our directions of judgment.”
