Vivek Sahay appointed new DG of Bengal Police

The Election Commission has announced the appointment of Vivek Sahay as the new Director General (DG) of West Bengal police, replacing Rajiv Kumar. This decision comes following the Commission's directive to remove Rajiv Kumar from his post as DG, barring him from any election-related duties. The state administration promptly proposed Vivek Sahay's name for the position, which received approval from the National Election Commission.

Vivek Sahay, an IPS officer from the 1988 batch, previously served as Director General and Commandant General of State Police (Home Guards). His appointment as the new DG comes amidst notable speculation, as his name wasn't initially among those discussed as successors to Rajiv Kumar. Following the Election Commission's stringent action, the state government reassigned Rajiv Kumar to the role of Secretary in the Information Technology Department.
