Following a complaint lodged by Surjit Bagchi, a software engineer residing in Garulia, at Noapara police station in December 2023, alleging a fraud of Rs 11 lakh, police initiated an investigation.
Despite initial challenges with incomplete information from traced phone numbers, authorities identified Bhawanipur, Kolkata, as the base of the fraudulent operation. On Friday, the Noapara police station successfully apprehended eight individuals, including two women, in connection with the fraud scheme. During the arrests, law enforcement recovered 40 mobile phones, numerous SIM cards, and eight diaries containing crucial information related to the fraudulent activities. Barrackpore Police Commissionerate Deputy Chief Ganesh Vishwash disclosed these findings during a press conference held at Noapara police station on Saturday.
