Abhishek slaps 10-crore defamation notice on Madan Mitra over 'murderer' jibe
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced 73-year-old SS Ahluwalia as its candidate from Asansol, replacing actor-singer Pawan Singh, who withdrew his candidature after his songs were flagged as misogynistic by the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Singh had met party president JP Nadda to convey his decision to withdraw after his nomination was announced on March 2. Despite initially changing his mind and deciding to contest the polls, Singh was replaced by Ahluwalia.
“I will contest elections to fulfill the promise made to my society, people, and mother...” Singh has said.
