Russia ready to negotiate on Ukraine: Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed willingness to engage in negotiations regarding Ukraine, stating that his government is open to dialogue. In an interview, Putin stated the importance of considering the interests of all countries involved in the conflict, including Russia.

"We are open to a dialogue on Ukraine, but such negotiations must take into account the interests of all countries involved in the conflict, including ours,” Putin stated.

The remarks come amid heightened tensions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, with recent reports of Russian forces launching attacks in northeastern Ukraine's Kharkiv region. Despite facing resistance, Russia has not achieved its objective of forcing Kyiv to surrender.

Putin's statement precedes his two-day visit to China, during which he is expected to discuss bilateral issues with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. The visit coincides with Ukraine's anticipation of new supplies of anti-aircraft missiles and artillery shells from the United States to bolster its defense against Russian aggression.

Putin said Russia never refused to negotiate. He said his country seeks what he called "a comprehensive, sustainable and just settlement of this conflict through peaceful means". However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy maintains that any negotiations must address key issues such as Ukraine's territorial integrity, withdrawal of Russian troops, release of prisoners, and security guarantees.
