WB records 54.80% voter turnout by 1 pm in 6th phase polling

West Bengal saw a voter turnout of 54.80% by 1 pm during the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections. Polling began at 7 am and is scheduled to conclude at 6 pm in eight constituencies: Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram, Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, and Bishnupur.

According to the Election Commission, till 11 am Ghatal led with the highest turnout at 39.21%, followed by Jhargram at 38.24%, Tamluk at 38.05%, and Kanthi at 38.03%. Bishnupur recorded 37.98%, Bankura 35.84%, and Medinipur 34.41%. Purulia had the lowest turnout at 33.16%.

A total of 1,45,34,228 voters, including 73,63,273 men, 71,70,822 women, and 133 from the third gender, are eligible to vote at 15,600 polling stations across the state. Prominent candidates include Bengali superstar Dev (TMC) from Ghatal, former Calcutta High Court judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay (BJP) from Tamluk, Union Minister Subhas Sarkar (BJP) from Bankura, and fashion designer Agnimitra Paul (BJP) contesting against TMC MLA and actor June Malia in Medinipur.

The election office received 364 complaints by 9 am. There are 79 candidates in total, with Bankura and Jhargram hosting the highest number of contestants at 13 each, followed by Purulia with 12, Medinipur and Tamluk with nine each, and Bishnupur and Ghatal with seven each.
