IMD warns of severe storms, hail, and heavy rain across Bengal; IPL opener at risk
The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is expected to issue lookout notices for four individuals suspected in the murder of Bangladesh MP Md. Anwarul Azim Anar. Among the suspects is Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman, a US citizen of Bangladeshi origin, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the crime. The 56-year-old Awami League MP was last seen in Kolkata on May 13, and remains missing. Recent police findings include 5 kg of flesh and hair in the septic tank and sewage pipes of a New Town apartment, suspected to be linked to Anar's disappearance.
CID officials suspect that Anar's murder was motivated by a financial dispute involving gold trading with Akhtaruzzaman, who allegedly fled to the US. Three suspects from Bangladesh and one from Kolkata have been arrested, while Akhtaruzzaman and three others remain at large. The Dhaka police and the West Bengal CID are coordinating their investigations, with forensic examinations underway to confirm the identity of the remains found in the apartment.
