From the beginning of July, Sealdah station will be ready to accommodate 12-coach local trains on each platform. This upgrade will allow Eastern Railway to carry 33 percent more passengers during office hours, with around 300 local trains being converted from 9-coach to 12-coach formations.
Deepak Nigam, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Sealdah Branch, assured that the railway will maintain normal passenger services on the remaining 16 platforms. However, there will be a slight change in the schedule of trains on the Main and North Branch. Platforms 1 to 5 and platform 6 will be closed from midnight today until 2 pm on June 9 to facilitate this transition.
