Nitish Kumar's 1 minister for 4 MPs formula, eyes 3 ministerial post

Along with backing, UCC, caste census and one nation-one poll, Nitish Kumar, the JD(U) leader, has proposed a formula for ministerial posts, suggesting one ministerial position for every four MPs. With 12 JD(U) MPs, Kumar is hoping three ministerial posts in the new cabinet. This follows the recent Lok Sabha election results, which saw the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) securing 240 seats, 32 seats short of a majority.

Reportedly, he is also expected to stay in Delhi until the swearing-in ceremony of the Modi government and may join NDA leaders at Rashtrapati Bhavan to stake a claim. Kumar will also meet with newly elected JD(U) MPs today. The JD(U) has no objection to the BJP holding the Speaker's post.

Further, JD(U) spokesperson KC Tyagi elaborating on ongoing talks said, "A section of voters has been upset over the Agniveer scheme. Our party wants those shortcomings questioned by the public to be discussed in detail and removed." Tyagi also reiterated the party's support for a caste-based census and demanded special status for Bihar.

Tyagi emphasized that the JD(U) is not against the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). "As the party's national president, the CM had written to the Law Commission chief about the UCC. We are not against it, but a solution should be found by talking to all stakeholders," he said.

Speaking on the special status for Bihar, Tyagi noted, "There is no precondition. There is unconditional support. But Bihar's being given the special status is something that we have in our hearts."
