Massive clash breaks out in Malda's Manikchak due to a protest against regular power outage in the area. Bricks were rained on the police by locals injuring personnel. It has been reported that two persons were injured in the retaliatory police firing.
The injured are admitted to Malda Medical College. A large number of policemen have been dispatched to the spot to deal with the situation. Senior police officers went to the spot. They are cordoning off the entire area. People also try to block roads by burning tyres.
Meanwhile, Nabanna has asked the district administration why and under what circumstances the firing had to be done. According to local sources, there was a power outage in that area for a long time. Residents were angry about frequent power outages. They also protested at the office of the local electricity department.
After none of the antics played out, men and women joined the protest by blocking the state road in Nurpur, Inayatpur area from Thursday morning. After a long siege, when the police went to lift the blockade, they were surrounded by protests. Police vehicles were vandalized by the angry mob.
