Reconstruction of crime scene in Kasba as probe intensifies in Kolkata college student rape case
The Railways on Saturday cancelled two trains between India and Bangladesh given the ongoing violent protests in the neighbouring country over demands for an end to a quota system in jobs.
Authorities from the Indian Railways said that the Kolkata-Dhaka Maitree Express on Saturday and Bandhan Express between Kolkata and Khulna on Sunday, have been cancelled because of "unavoidable circumstances".
The Maitri Express didn't depart from Dhaka on Friday, they said. The Maitri Express, which leaves from Kolkata on Saturday, also didn't depart, due to the protests in the neighbouring country.
Over 115 people have been killed in clashes between student protesters and police and pro-government activists in Bangladesh, which erupted in the country over reservations in government jobs.
The quota system, brought in by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government, reserves a significant portion of government jobs for certain groups. The protesters allege that this system is discriminatory and prevents meritorious candidates from securing government positions.
