The BJP government in Rajasthan has ceased new registrations for two key schemes initiated by the previous Ashok Gehlot government: free smartphones for women and free electricity up to 100 units. Energy Minister Heera Lal Nagar confirmed that while no new applicants will be registered, the schemes will continue for existing beneficiaries. The decision impacts approximately 30 lakh domestic consumers who did not register under the previous administration.
Nagar stated, "Congress had brought this scheme for electoral gains. If benefits were to be given to everyone, then there would be no need for registration." The free smartphone scheme, suspended before the assembly elections due to the Model Code of Conduct, also remains on hold. The government will decide on its resumption after evaluating its benefits to women and public interest.
