NCP leader Baba Siddique shot multiple times and dies in Mumbai Hospital
The Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) has announced the continuation of its nationwide indefinite strike on Tuesday, in protest against the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. The decision to extend the strike comes after a meeting with officials from the Union Health Ministry failed to bring about a resolution.
The strike, which began on Monday, has led to the paralysis of elective services, including outpatient departments (OPDs) and non-emergency medical services, in government hospitals nationwide. Despite the disruption, emergency services will remain operational, according to FORDA President Aviral Mathur.
The medics' body expressed disappointment over the lack of concrete outcomes from their discussions with the health ministry, prompting them to continue their protest. The resident doctors are demanding stricter security measures and swift justice for the deceased trainee doctor.
The post-mortem report of the victim revealed horrific details, indicating that the accused had violently assaulted her, shattering her glasses, with shards piercing her eyes. The report also confirmed that the trainee doctor was raped and sustained multiple injuries before being killed by throttling and smothering. The estimated time of death was between 3 and 5 am on Friday.
The case has sparked nationwide outrage, with medical professionals demanding immediate action to ensure the safety of healthcare workers in the country.
