The call for a 12-hour Bengal Bandh by the SUCI seems to have little to no impact in Kolkata and its suburbs. A few instances of small rallies, micing, and attempts to block roads were reported from Malda, Howrah, and other districts but no major incidents have surfaced yet.
On the other hand, a protest was being carried out by the BJP supporters at Shyambazar 5-point in Kolkata. The agitators have been arrested by the Kolkata police. The BJP had announced plans for a “Chakka Jaam” rally at 2:00 pm as part of their ongoing demonstrations against the West Bengal government's handling of the RG Kar Medical College incident.
Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has also organized a rally demanding the death penalty for those responsible for the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital. This rally, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is set to proceed from Moulali to Dorina More, adding to the day’s political activity.
Despite the bandh call, the West Bengal government had assured that everything would remain open, with CM Mamata Banerjee asserting that strikes no longer have an impact in Bengal.
