Dinhata city witnessed escalating tension on Tuesday as the 12-hour strike called by the Socialist Unity Center of India (SUCI) in protest against the RG Kar Hospital incident led to clashes between protesters and the police. The strike, organized to demand justice for the recent tragic events at the Kolkata hospital, saw SUCI leaders and workers taking to the streets in a march.
However, tensions rose when police forces intervened to stop the protesters, resulting in a confrontation. The situation quickly escalated, leading to the arrest of 25 bandh supporters. Azizul Haque, a prominent SUCI leader, condemned the police action, accusing the state government of failing to ensure women's safety and maintaining law and order in West Bengal.
Azizul Haque further criticized the state government, stating, "The law and order situation in the state has completely collapsed. The democratic rights of the people are being violated."
The strike was part of the ongoing protests across the state in response to the recent rape and murder of a female trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, which has sparked widespread outrage and demands for justice.
