Bengali celebrities are taking a strong stand against the RG Kar Hospital incident. Sourav Gangopadhyay and Dona Gangopadhyay have not only changed their social media profile pictures to black but are also planning to participate in a protest march. The two will join the procession from Barisha next Wednesday at 7:30 pm.
A protest march has been organized by Dona Ganguly's dance school, Diksha Manjari, to address the issue of brutality against women. The march will start at Barisha Player Corner and proceed through James Long Sarani, Behala Chowrasta, and Blind School, before ending in front of Diksha Manjari. Participants have been asked to wear black to the protest.
Numerous rallies have been held across Bengal in response to the RG Kar incident. People from all walks of life, including celebrities, have voiced their concerns. Sourav and Dona have been vocal about the issue from the beginning, speaking to the media multiple times. Sourav stated, “This is a hellish incident. I hope the perpetrators will be severely punished.” Dona also expressed her dismay, advocating for strong action against such heinous crimes.
Recently, both celebrities blacked out their social media profile pictures as a mark of protest. While they have made their stance clear online, their participation in the protest march signifies a more direct form of activism. Dona had initially planned to attend the women’s program ‘Raat Adhapan’ on August 14 but had to cancel due to her daughter's illness. Now, both are taking significant steps to protest on the streets.
