Srirampur police arrested five individuals for possession of illegal firearms. The arrests were made during a surprise Naka check at Dirghangi turn, where a Scorpio vehicle bearing the number WB-18S/2076 was stopped for inspection.
During the thorough search of the vehicle, police recovered two 9 mm improvised pistols and six rounds of prohibited 9 mm bullets. The occupants of the car were immediately arrested.
The accused have been identified as -- Soumya Surul alias Piyal (33), Shibnath Biswas alias Chotka (36), Sumit Das alias Gulu (20), Sasti Das (30), and Deepak Singh alias Sujit alias Ponga (26).
Chandannagar Police Commissionerate DCP (Shrirampur) Arnab Ghosh confirmed the arrests and stated that a case has been registered against the accused under the relevant sections. The Scorpio vehicle has also been seized as part of the investigation.
