Intoxicated civic volunteer hits protestors with bike at BT Road

A peaceful protest by students demanding justice for the rape and murder of a medical student turned chaotic when a drunken civic volunteer crashed his bike into a barricade on BT Road in Kolkata late last night. The protest, organized by students and alumni of Rabindra Bharati University, led to a four-and-a-half-hour blockade at the Sinthi intersection, severely disrupting traffic on the Dunlop-Shyambazar route.

The protest, which began at 11 PM with police permission, involved students painting pictures on the road to express their outrage over the incident at RG Kar Hospital. Around 3:10 AM, the civic volunteer, allegedly intoxicated, made offensive remarks and collided with the barricade.

The students detained the police, demanding action against the volunteer, protesting from 4 am which affected the traffic conditions on the Dunlop-Shyambazar route. An FIR was registered, and the civic volunteer was taken into custody.  The blockade was eventually lifted after nearly five hours of disruption.
