Kasba rape case: BJP procession stopped in Gariahat before it starts; Sukanta Majumdar arrested
Minakshi Mukherjee, the West Bengal state secretary of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and a prominent leader of the CPI(M), appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Salt Lake on Thursday. She arrived at the office at noon and got out by 1:13 pm.
Her appearance is in connection with the ongoing investigation into the tragic rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Hospital. The case has drawn widespread attention, and the CBI is probing various aspects of the incident.
Mukherjee, who returned from Raiganj early in the morning, stated that she was fully committed to cooperating with the CBI in its investigation. "I will cooperate with the CBI officers in every way," she told reporters outside the agency's office. Mukherjee had previously visited the family of the deceased doctor on August 9, shortly after the young medic's body was discovered in the seminar hall of RG Kar Hospital. The death has sparked outrage across the state, particularly within medical and political circles.
The CPI(M) has taken a strong stance on the matter, with the party repeatedly claiming that the rushed cremation of the doctor's body was only avoided due to Mukherjee's intervention. On the night of the incident, Mukherjee was seen at the hospital, where she physically blocked a police hearse carrying the doctor’s body, demanding a thorough investigation before any final rites were conducted. This action created significant tension between the police and the Left leaders but ultimately delayed the cremation process.
