Theft in house near Nabanna in Howrah; 10-12 lakhs worth of cash, gold looted

The crime rate in Howrah is escalating, raising concerns about public safety, particularly after a recent theft that occurred just steps away from the state secretariat, Nabanna. This daring incident took place on the night of Saturday into Sunday in an empty house on Ambika Ghoshal Lane, located in Shibpur, an area typically considered secure.

The audacity of the thieves has left residents and authorities alarmed. The burglary involved a significant theft, with the culprits reportedly stealing all household items, including gold jewelry, cash, and a hard stone idol of a deity, amounting to an estimated value of 10-12 lakh rupees.

The police from the Chatterjeehat police station responded quickly upon receiving information about the incident and have since launched an investigation. The house belonged to Praveer Mukherjee, who had been away in Chennai with his wife for the past three to four months.

He was scheduled to return on Sunday but was met with the shocking news of the burglary before he could step foot back in his home. Police sources indicated that the thieves took advantage of the house being unoccupied, demonstrating a blatant disregard for the law and a concerning level of confidence.
