Temple in California desecrated with anti-hindu messages

The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Sacramento, California, was desecrated with anti-Hindu messages on Wednesday, marking the second such incident in the United States within 10 days. The temple, located in Mather, was defaced with a hateful message that read, "Hindus go back." The Sacramento Police have classified the act as a hate crime and are currently investigating the matter. In addition to the vandalism, water lines on the property were reportedly cut.

Following the incident, members of the Hindu community gathered at the temple for a special prayer ceremony aimed at promoting harmony and resilience. BAPS Public Affairs issued a statement reaffirming their commitment to peace, inspired by Mahant Swami Maharaj. “Together we will defeat hate,” the organization emphasized.

Indian-American Congressman Ami Bera condemned the act, stating that there is no place for religious bigotry and hatred in Sacramento County. He urged the community to stand united against intolerance and ensure that all people, regardless of faith, feel safe and respected.

This act of vandalism follows a similar incident earlier this month at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Melville, New York, where hate messages were scrawled on the temple driveway and gate. The Consulate General of India in New York had condemned the earlier act and raised the issue with US authorities.
