South Bengal gets new rail connectivity: Purulia-Bankura-Howrah MEMU service inaugurated today
Tala Police Station, which has been in the spotlight due to the ongoing RG Kar Medical College scandal, has a new Officer-in-Charge (OC). Malaya Kumar Dutta has taken charge as the new OC of Tala Police Station following the arrest of former OC, Abhijit Mondal, in connection with the high-profile Tilottama murder and rape case. Mondal, currently in jail, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for his alleged role in the case.
Before his formal appointment, Malay Dutta had been serving as the Additional OC of Tala Police Station after Mondal’s arrest. He previously worked at Shyampukur Police Station, Kolkata, also in the capacity of Additional OC. The official announcement of his promotion to OC came on Thursday through a notification issued by Kolkata Police.
Mondal’s involvement in the RG Kar Medical College case deepened after the CBI accused him of altering evidence and creating false records at Tala Police Station. These claims were made in court when the CBI opposed Mondal's bail request, leading to an extension of his jail custody.
In another development, Abhijit Mondal reportedly fell ill and was admitted to Presidency Jail Hospital on Thursday, where he is currently receiving treatment.
