Bangladeshi Hilsa arrives at Howrah wholesale market | Check Rates

On September 27, West Bengal received approximately 45-50 tonnes of Hilsa fish from Bangladesh. Bangladesh's interim government has permitted the export of 2,420 tonnes of Hilsa to India, with the total quantity expected to arrive by October 12.

The fish is being sold at a wholesale price of ₹1,400-1,600 per kg. Around 50 tonnes of Hilsa reached Howrah's fish market, with the Padma River breed, known for its superior taste, crossing the Petrapole-Benapole border.

Bangladesh had initially banned Hilsa exports in 2012, but since 2019, special export permits have been granted to India, especially during the festive season. Hilsa remains a much-desired delicacy in eastern India, particularly during Durga Puja celebrations.
