Locals made Patuli OC stand in mud for hours to protest student's death

Tension escalated in Bansdroni, South Kolkata, after a tragic incident where a class 9 student lost his life after being hit by an excavator. Following the incident, residents staged a protest, expressing their anger and frustration over the poor condition of the roads. In a dramatic turn of events, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patuli police station was made to stand in the mud for hours by the locals, who demanded he witness firsthand the deteriorating state of the roads that led to the accident.

The residents surrounded the OC, holding him in place until a large police force arrived to rescue him. The protest intensified after claims that locals were attacked during the demonstration, further heightening tensions in the area. The locals had been waiting since morning to meet their local councilor, who allegedly did not show up even afternoon, adding to their frustration.

In the afternoon, the Senior Superintendent of Kolkata Police (SSD) arrived at the scene, which helped calm the situation to some extent. The Deputy Commissioner (DC) later assured the residents that the search for the JCB driver responsible for the accident was underway. The police have also promised to investigate their role in the incident, which has come under scrutiny after the protests.

The protest was triggered after a 9th-grade student tragically lost his life on Wednesday morning. The accident occurred near the Dinesh Nagar auto stand while the boy was on his way to tuition. Despite efforts by locals to rush him to Bangur Hospital, he was declared dead upon arrival, leaving the community devastated and seeking justice.
