BJP leader Roopa Ganguly was arrested after she staged a protest at Basdroni Police Station in Kolkata. Ganguly was demonstrating against the tragic death of a schoolboy, who was killed by an excavator in the Bansdroni area earlier that day. The boy, a class 9 student, was on his way to tuition when the incident occurred. However, she received bail after a few hours.
According to Ganguly, the individuals involved in the incident were close aides of the local Trinamool Congress (TMC) councilor from Ward 113. She alleged that the original driver of the excavator was not operating the vehicle at the time, and the machine was being handled by people undergoing training, who were allegedly intoxicated. The boy was struck and killed during this incident, sparking outrage among locals.
Ganguly sat on a dharna (sit-in protest) inside the police station premises, demanding the arrest of the suspects. She expressed frustration that the police had failed to take prompt action against the accused. Despite her peaceful protest, she was arrested and taken to the Kolkata Police Headquarters at Lalbazar.
The death of the schoolboy has deeply affected the local community, with many questioning the safety measures in place for such heavy machinery. Further details regarding the investigation and possible arrests are awaited as tensions remain high in the area.
