Arjun Singh, his security official injured in bomb attack; Shots also fired

The Jagaddal area in West Bengal has erupted in violence ahead of the Puja celebrations, with a bombing and shooting incident reported outside the house of former Member of Parliament (MP) Arjun Singh. Early on Friday morning, a group of miscreants arrived on bikes and launched a violent attack, throwing bombs and firing shots in front of Singh's residence.

Arjun Singh himself sustained injuries from a bomb splinter that hit his leg, though his injury is reportedly not serious. Apart from this, one of his security officials (a jawan from central forces) also suffered injuries and was seen bleeding.

The former MP alleged that the attack was orchestrated by Namit Singh, the son of a local Trinamool Congress (TMC) councilor. According to Singh, around 15-20 attackers were involved in the violent outburst, and his security guards were also targeted. He further claimed that the local police, who were present at the scene, remained silent spectators during the attack.

Singh expressed concerns that the attackers intended to kill him, stating, "They attacked my house, bombarded and fired shots. There was a plot to kill me, but it failed. However, a large splinter hit my leg, causing some bleeding." He also added that this was not the first time his house had been targeted, as a similar bombing had occurred previously, and the accused had an NIA case against him.

The area is currently in a state of high tension, with a significant police presence deployed at the site. Singh has voiced his frustration with the state of law and order in Jagaddal, saying it has "completely collapsed."
