JCB driver and owner arrested in Bansdroni student death case

In a tragic incident in Bansdroni, a 14-year-old student was crushed by a JCB payloader on Mahalaya morning, leading to widespread anger and unrest among residents. The community reacted strongly, with an agitated mob vandalizing the payloader and expressing their frustration towards local authorities for the poor condition of the roads. The death of the young boy has raised serious concerns about safety and accountability in the area, highlighting longstanding issues that residents feel have been neglected.

In response to the incident, police have arrested two individuals: Shambhu Ram, the driver of the JCB, and Vishwakarma Sharma, the vehicle's owner. Reports indicate that Sharma assisted Ram in escaping the scene immediately following the accident. The arrests were made after extensive searches in the Dumdum and Chitpur areas, with the authorities acting swiftly to address the community's demands for justice. Both suspects have been charged under Section 105 of the Indian Penal Code.

During a press conference, DC SSD Vidisha Kalita Dasgupta announced that a total of six FIRs had been filed in connection with the student’s death. She emphasized the importance of holding those responsible accountable, affirming that the police are investigating the allegations against local councilor Anita Kar Majumder, who has faced scrutiny from residents. The ongoing investigation aims to determine whether any negligence on the part of local officials contributed to the tragic event.
