Prayagraj authorities are taking proactive measures to enhance the safety of millions attending the Maha Kumbh Mela in 2025 by launching state-of-the-art digital 'Khoya-Paya' (lost-and-found) centres. This initiative, a collaboration between the Prayagraj Mela Authority and the Police Department, aims to tackle the longstanding issue of missing persons during large gatherings, which often leads to distress among families.

The innovative registration system will allow for immediate digital recording of missing individuals. Visitors can report a lost person at these centres, where their information will be logged and broadcast through various channels, including social media platforms like Facebook and X (formerly Twitter). This real-time data sharing will significantly improve the chances of quickly reuniting families, turning what has traditionally been a chaotic and stressful experience into a more organized and efficient process.

The high-tech 'Khoya-Paya' centres will also feature a comprehensive announcement system to alert attendees about missing individuals. This aspect is particularly crucial during peak hours, when large crowds can make individual searches daunting. The initiative is not just about technology; it symbolizes a commitment to creating a safer environment for all attendees, especially vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly.

Special emphasis is being placed on child and women's safety. The protocol will require strict verification for anyone claiming a lost child or woman, with police assistance readily available to intervene if there are doubts about the claimant's identity. In cases where a missing individual has not been located within 12 hours, local authorities will ensure they are taken to a secure facility for further care and assistance.

The Yogi Adityanath government is also keen to dispel the cinematic stereotypes associated with the Kumbh Mela, where lost loved ones often find each other only through serendipitous encounters. By implementing a systematic approach with these digital centres, the government aims to rewrite the narrative surrounding the Mela, ensuring that no one feels hopelessly lost.

As the event draws closer, preparations for the 'Khoya-Paya' centres are well underway. The goal is not only to provide a seamless experience for pilgrims but also to reassure them that safety measures are robust and reliable. With millions expected to gather for the Maha Kumbh, the integration of technology into public safety is a groundbreaking step that underscores the government's dedication to ensuring every visitor's well-being.
