Jago Nari group marches to CGO complex over RG Kar case, scuffle with cops

In a show of solidarity and demand for justice, the women's organization "Jago Nari Jago" held a protest at the CGO Complex in Salt Lake on Wednesday, seeking a fair and swift investigation into the rape and murder case at RG Kar Medical College. Women from different sectors, including ASHA workers, doctors, nurses, mid-day meal workers, and Anganwadi workers, participated in the campaign. The protest aimed to highlight the alleged inadequacies in the current investigation and the need for accountability.

The campaigners gathered at Salt Lake's Karunamayee and marched towards the CGO Complex, which houses the CBI office. However, they faced police obstruction upon reaching the complex, as both doors of the CGO Complex were closed. The police stated that they could not allow the procession inside. Despite this setback, a delegation from "Jago Nari Jago" was permitted to enter and submit a memorandum outlining their concerns and demands.

The group expressed dissatisfaction with the charge sheet filed by the CBI in the RG Kar case, which they claimed only implicates a civic volunteer. The protesters argued that the incident could not have been orchestrated by a single individual and suggested that larger groups were involved. They called for a deeper investigation into the people or networks that may have facilitated the crime, stating that only a comprehensive inquiry would bring the true perpetrators to justice.

The women emphasized the need for a thorough investigation that goes beyond the surface-level findings, insisting that the charge sheet does not reflect the full scope of the crime. The protestors highlighted the vulnerability of women and the lack of safety, particularly in healthcare institutions, and said that this case should be a turning point for greater accountability.
