Bihar migrant worker shot dead in Kashmir's Shopian

A bullet-ridden body of a migrant from Bihar was found near the basin of the Rambiara River in the Shopian district in South Kashmir. Shopian Superintendent of Police Anayat Ali Choudhary confirmed that a bullet-riddled body had been found, although he said further details on the incident are awaited.

However, sources in the Jammu & Kashmir Police identified the deceased as Ashok Chauhan, a 30-year-old roadside vendor selling maize in the main town of the district. Militants allegedly abducted Chauhan from Shopian’s Malhura area and subsequently shot him dead.

This is the first suspected militant attack targeting a migrant worker post Lok Sabha and assembly polls. Militants last killed a migrant worker in Bijbehara town of Anantnag, South Kashmir, on April 17.
