UP woman, 40, killed in scooter crash with Uttarakhand bus

On Friday night, Rashmi Sonkar, a 40-year-old resident of Kaiserbagh, lost her life when her scooter was struck by a bus from the Almora depot in Uttarakhand. The accident occurred near the Daliganj intersection as Rashmi was returning home, leading to her death at the scene. Eyewitnesses reported that the impact was severe, and she did not survive the collision.

Following the accident, the bus collided with a roadside divider before coming to a halt. This prompted bystanders to rush to the scene, where they confronted the bus driver. In a fit of anger, the crowd began to assault him, blaming him for the unfortunate event. The situation escalated until police from the Hasanganj station arrived, intervening to rescue the driver from the mob and transporting him to the station for safety.

Upon receiving news of his wife’s untimely demise, Pradeep Sonkar, Rashmi's husband, rushed to the police station. Overwhelmed with grief, he demanded immediate action against the driver, leading to a protest at the station. The police took down Pradeep’s complaint, and a case was officially registered later that night. Authorities have since impounded the bus as part of the investigation. Community members are expressing outrage over the incident, calling for stricter regulations regarding road safety and bus driver accountability.
