Allegations of misconduct and tensions escalate across Delhi polling stations on Election day
The Kshatriya Karni Sena has stirred controversy by announcing a hefty reward of ₹1,11,11,111 for the encounter of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, whose gang recently claimed responsibility for the murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique in Mumbai. The Kshatriya Karni Sena’s national president, Raj Shekhawat, announced the announcement in a video statement uploaded to social media.
In the video, Shekhawat is purportedly heard offering the reward to any police or security personnel who can carry out the encounter of Lawrence Bishnoi, ensuring his demise. “We will give this amount to any officer who ensures that Lawrence Bishnoi is killed to secure the safety of the public,” Shekhawat said, adding that both the central and Gujarat governments have failed to handle the growing menace of Bishnoi's criminal empire.
Lawrence Bishnoi, a notorious gangster currently lodged in Gujarat’s Sabarmati Jail on cross-border drug smuggling charges, has become a prominent figure in India’s organized crime world. He has been linked to various high-profile cases, including the April 2023 firing outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence in Mumbai. Although the Mumbai Police sought to take Bishnoi into custody for questioning in that case, they were unable to do so.
In his video statement, Raj Shekhawat referred to Lawrence Bishnoi as the "killer of our precious gem and heritage, Amar Shaheed Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi ji.” Gogamedi, the former chief of the Karni Sena, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Jaipur on December 5, 2023. Hours after his killing, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the murder. The shocking revelation has further intensified the animosity between the Karni Sena and the Bishnoi gang.
Bishnoi’s criminal syndicate continues to operate across India, and his gang has been responsible for a string of high-profile murders and violent incidents. Most recently, Bishnoi’s gang claimed responsibility for the murder of Baba Siddique, alleging that Siddique had ties to notorious underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and a close personal relationship with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. Khan has been a frequent target of death threats from the Bishnoi gang in recent years, with his security being heightened following Siddique’s killing.
The gang has also been linked to other incidents, including the September 2023 killing of Khalistani sympathizer Sukha Duneke, as well as shootings outside the residences of Punjabi singers AP Dhillon and Gippy Grewal in Canada. Despite being in prison, Lawrence Bishnoi’s criminal network continues to wreak havoc, leading to widespread fear and chaos.
