Legendary actor & filmmaker Manoj Kumar passes away at the age of 87
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra officially entered the electoral arena on Wednesday by filing her nomination for the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll, bringing her 35 years of political experience to the forefront. Speaking at a gathering in Kalpetta, she reflected on her long-standing involvement in politics, which began at the age of 17 when she campaigned for her late father, Rajiv Gandhi, in 1989. This nomination marks her first personal foray into electoral politics, having previously supported her mother, Sonia Gandhi, and her brother, Rahul Gandhi, in various elections.
Addressing a large crowd, Priyanka expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent Wayanad, a constituency previously held by Rahul Gandhi. She noted the strong connection between the Gandhi family and the people of Wayanad, emphasizing the support they provided to her brother during challenging times. "I know he had to leave you, and I promise that I will only strengthen the bond between you and him," she stated. During the event, Rahul Gandhi reiterated his support, telling the audience that if Priyanka wins, Wayanad will effectively have two MPs in Parliament. He expressed his dedication to the constituency, stating, "I will be the unofficial MP of the people of Wayanad."
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, also present at the nomination event, praised Priyanka's dedication to Wayanad. He urged the electorate to support her candidacy, reinforcing the party's commitment to addressing the needs of the hill district. Kharge emphasized that the Congress party has always prioritized the welfare of the people, promising to uphold developmental projects in the region. The by-election was necessitated by Rahul Gandhi's decision to vacate the Wayanad seat after winning from both Wayanad and Rae Bareli in the recent Lok Sabha polls. This decision sparked considerable speculation about who would be chosen to contest in his place, and Priyanka's nomination has generated excitement among party supporters and the electorate alike.
Priyanka's campaign will focus on key issues affecting Wayanad, including development, environmental sustainability, and social welfare. She aims to address the concerns of farmers, women, and youth in the region, emphasizing the need for equitable growth and access to resources. "I want to hear your voices, your struggles, and your aspirations. Together, we can work towards a brighter future for Wayanad," she declared during her speech. As Priyanka prepares for the November 1 voting day, she is set to contest against candidates from the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
