South Bengal gets new rail connectivity: Purulia-Bankura-Howrah MEMU service inaugurated today
The railway gate at Sodpur malfunctioned on Monday night, causing significant traffic congestion and disrupting local transportation. Vehicles, including trucks, remained stationary for hours, blocking major routes and affecting movement across Sodpur, Panihati, and Agarpara. The malfunction halted vehicular crossing at the gate, leaving commuters and pedestrians unable to navigate the area.
Train services on the Sodpur route have been impacted, with local trains reducing speed while crossing the affected section. The disruption has caused delays for many daily passengers. Traffic congestion worsened as heavy vehicles, particularly trucks, remained immobile on the road, further restricting movement.
Repair work began late Monday night and has been ongoing. Railway officials reported that the gate’s mechanical failure required extensive work, delaying resolution. Despite efforts to restore normalcy, traffic remained paralyzed by Tuesday morning, with vehicles lined up for kilometers in some areas.
Authorities confirmed that repair operations are being conducted on priority. Traffic police were present at the site to manage congestion and ensure pedestrian safety. The issue has affected thousands of commuters traveling to work, schools, and colleges, with no clear timeline for the gate’s restoration.
