UP auto-canter collision kills 4 returning from Haldi ceremony

A road accident in Bulandshahr’s Kotwali Dehat area on Thursday night claimed four lives and left several others injured. The collision occurred near a liquor shop when a canter (UP-16 ET 3593) rammed into an auto carrying seven people. The victims, who were returning from a Haldi ceremony in Machkauli village, included Gangawati (70) and her sister-in-law Rajendri (55), who died on the spot. Radha and another passenger succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

The group, all residents of Kudwal Banaras village, had attended a pre-wedding ritual of their relative. Other passengers in the auto included Vishanwati, Mamta, Bharti, and Savita. Tikam Singh, the driver of the auto, was also among those injured. Police detained the canter driver at the site and initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

The bodies were sent for postmortem, and the injured were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Initial reports suggest overspeeding by the canter may have contributed to the accident. Villagers who witnessed the incident staged a protest, demanding justice and immediate action against the driver.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences and instructed district authorities to provide all necessary support to the victims’ families. He directed officials to ensure proper treatment for the injured and take strict action against those responsible. The Chief Minister’s Office also announced that further steps would be taken to address concerns raised by locals regarding road safety in the area.
