On Saturday afternoon, a violent altercation took place in Bansdroni, Kolkata, when Rudranarayan Bhattacharya attacked his elderly father, Shambhunarayan Bhattacharya, at their residence in Brahmapur. The assault began when Rudranarayan reportedly began beating his father, causing Shambhunarayan to cry out for help. Neighbors, hearing the commotion, attempted to intervene but were reportedly deterred because Rudranarayan was armed with a knife and other sharp weapons. Concerned for the safety of Shambhunarayan, one of the neighbors called the police.
Upon arriving at the scene, police officers tried to intervene and rescue Shambhunarayan. However, Rudranarayan confronted the officers, continuing his violent actions and attacking the police with the knife and other weapons. Several police officers sustained injuries during the confrontation. Rudranarayan also vandalized an ambulance at the scene, smashing its windshield. As the situation escalated, local residents intervened, managing to restrain Rudranarayan until police could take him into custody.
Rudranarayan Bhattacharya was arrested at the scene and has been taken into police custody. Authorities are now investigating the incident, including the nature of Rudranarayan’s actions and his mental state. Medical professionals are being consulted regarding his behavior. The police confirmed that Rudranarayan will face charges related to the assault on his father, as well as the assault on the police officers and the vandalism of the ambulance.
