Jr doctors announce dharna over RG Kar case at Esplanade, seek police permission

The Joint Platform of Doctors, representing five medical organizations, has announced a peaceful sit-in demonstration at Doreena Crossing in Kolkata from December 17 to December 26, 2024. This protest is a response to a recent heinous crime at RG Kan Medical College, which has sparked outrage across the healthcare community.

In a formal letter to the Commissioner of Police, the conveners of the platform, Dr. Punyabrata Gun and Dr. Hiralal Konar, stated that the protest would be conducted without disrupting traffic or public life. A temporary stage will be set up at the demonstration site to accommodate the protest.

The key demands of the protestors are:
1. Immediate submission of the supplementary charge sheet by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to ensure timely justice.
2. Authorization for the CBI to submit the charge sheet in court against the accused, Sandip Ghosh.

“We are committed to maintaining a peaceful and orderly protest, strictly adhering to legal and safety norms,” assured the conveners. The demonstration aims to bring attention to issues of justice and safety in the healthcare system, a concern that has long been voiced by medical professionals.

The Joint Platform of Doctors has emphasized the importance of swift action to prevent delays in the justice process. The platform also expressed confidence in the support and cooperation of the Kolkata Police during this demonstration.

The crime at RG Kan Medical College has heightened concerns about the safety of healthcare workers and the need for systemic reforms. The sit-in protest aims to urge authorities to take immediate and effective measures to ensure justice and create a safer environment for medical professionals and patients alike.

As the event approaches, the medical fraternity and public await the authorities' response to this earnest call for justice.
