Fare for last Dumdum-Kavi Subhash Metro increased by 10 rupees starting January 1, 2025

From January 1, 2025, the fare for the last metro on the Dumdum-Kavi Subhash route has been increased by 10 rupees. The metro authorities have announced that passengers traveling on the 10:40 PM train from Dumdum to Kavi Subhash will now pay 20 rupees, up from the previous fare of 10 rupees. This change applies to the Special Night Service, which operates Monday to Friday.

The fare hike has been implemented due to the low occupancy on the last metro. The 10:40 PM train has consistently seen fewer passengers compared to other trains operating on the route. In fact, the metro authorities noted that the late-night train has been running at a loss, prompting the decision to raise the fare as a means to address the financial shortfall. The additional 10 rupees per passenger is intended to offset the operating costs of running this late-night service.

While the fare for the last metro will be revised, the fares for all other trains on the Dumdum-Kavi Subhash route will remain unchanged. The Special Night Service, which was introduced to meet passenger demand for late-night travel, will continue to operate despite the fare hike. This service began in May 2024 and runs from Monday to Friday, providing an essential transport option for passengers traveling during late hours.

The revised fare applies only to the last metro service, with all other trains continuing to operate at their regular rates. The metro authorities have stressed that the Special Night Service is a crucial part of the metro network, providing late-night connectivity. The fare increase is seen as a necessary step to ensure the sustainability of the service while addressing the financial impact of lower ridership.
