Two Bangladeshi women, Azmira Khatun and Shirina Khatun, were arrested by Baghda police on Wednesday morning for illegally entering India. Acting on a tip-off, the police apprehended the women in the Mathavanga area of Baghda, located in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. Both women are residents of Jessore district in Bangladesh. According to the police, they had crossed the border into India several months ago through an illegal route and were working as domestic helpers in an unknown state.
The women had come to Baghda with the intention of returning to Bangladesh after a relative's illness. They were attempting to cross the border back into Bangladesh using the same illegal route they had used for their initial entry into India. The police are investigating the exact details of their movement and the nature of their illegal entry. Authorities are also checking if they possess any Indian identification or documents.
The arrested women were produced before the Bongaon Sub-Divisional Court for further legal proceedings. Baghda police are continuing their investigation to identify any possible links to broader illegal immigration or trafficking networks. The authorities are also examining whether the women were part of a larger group involved in unauthorized cross-border migration.
