Abhishek Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress MP and All India General Secretary, initiated the 'Sevashray' health camp project to offer accessible healthcare services to the residents of Diamond Harbour. The camps, which have been operational for a few days now, are receiving a high volume of patients. On the fourth day, 15,785 individuals attended various health camps set up across the region, reflecting the program's reach and impact.
Among the patients treated at these camps was 9-year-old Sadika Sultana, who had sustained injuries in a road accident. She was initially attended to at the Bagda Taj Club Sevashray camp, where medical staff promptly assessed her condition. After initial treatment, Sadika was transferred to Diamond Harbour Medical College for advanced care. Her quick transfer ensured that she received the necessary treatment for her injuries.
In another case, 9-year-old Altaf Hossain Ghorami visited a Sevashray camp where doctors diagnosed him with a hole in the heart. This condition had likely been affecting him for an extended period. Upon diagnosis, the doctors referred him to the SDIO field model camp for further examination and treatment. Following the confirmation of his heart defect, Altaf was transferred to Jagannath Gupta Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital for surgical intervention and ongoing care, with treatment provided free of charge.
The Sevashray project, apart from handling emergencies, is also providing general healthcare services. Many residents are utilizing the camps for routine check-ups, consultations, and preventive care. With thousands of individuals attending the camps daily, the initiative is improving healthcare access for the local population, especially in areas where medical facilities are limited.
